We are blessed to have "right of access", but there are certain requirements and obligations we have.
Tents must be set up more than 150 meters from the inhabited houses and cottages, but from 1 January 2012 the Ministry allow tenting also closer than 150 meters. If you tent near where people live, you can only have it standing up to two nights in the same place. Then you have to move the tent out of the area. The law says nothing about how far you should move it, but you should move it about a kilometer, depending on site conditions.

You can not leave the tent over time without using it. It is for example not allowed to leave the tent while you are at work.

You can download a brochure in english here.

In public recreational areas on the islands the municipalities allows that you can stay 14 days in tents without tent is moved to another location. For the Islands Masseløy, Skjellerøy, Ramsholmen, Ildverket and Uleholmen tenting is not allowed closer than 30 m from shoreline.

The protection regulations for national park: "5.4 Tenting - Setting up tents is prohibited in Ruse Odden on Eastern Bolæren, on Sandø and eastern Bustein and in zones B and C. The prohibition does not apply to camping on Lille Rauer and Hoftøya."
